Nic West claimed his stake in the music industry with both his W.A.D. (Without A Deal) and D.O.N.D. (Deal or No Deal) EP releases. As a fairly new artist in the world of music, Wests early releases were the building blocks of his brand and signature sound. Both W.A.D. and D.O.N.D. show the transition of West going from ordinary to extraordinary and emerging as a role model and person of influence. This was a learning experience for me as an artist. I had to ask myself the hard questions. Who is Nic West? Who is my audience? What value did I want to bring my listeners and how to portray it in a way that was unique and attention grabbing. Most importantly, I had to learn the ins and outs of the music business; royalties, copyrights, publishing, marketing, advertising, the whole nine yards. They say it’s 10% talent and 90% business. HENRY

Nic West capitalizes off of his earlier releases by showcasing his newest work of art titled HENRY. Some may be wondering, why would Nic West name his EP HENRY?

HENRY is actually an acronym, it stands for High Earner Not Rich Yet. As I’ve been pursuing my purpose and building my legacy over time, I look back and realize I am not where I once was. On the contrary, I have not reached where I want to be. It is not so much being a high earner from a monetary stand point, but how I can be of value to others. How can I become an asset, be of service, get into the right rooms with the movers and shakers? It’s a lifestyle you have to exude confidence, you have to know what value you bring, and back it up with proof. I am comfortable in who I am as an artist now, and that wasn’t true in the past. It took time, more time than I had hoped but better late than never. It is easy to get distracted these days with social media and new trends that come and go. You will have people in your ear saying maybe you should be like so and so, or do this or that in order to be successful like the next person. I will tell you now, people pleasing will get you nowhere, stay on your path. The real question is are you in it for a short time or a long time? Anything slow will grow and anything fast won’t last.
